A root canal treatment is an endodontic procedure that removes decay and infection from the innermost layer (pulp) of the tooth. When a decay reaches the dental pulp and nerves of the tooth, an infection occurs, and one feels severe tooth sensitivity and pain. If left untreated, one would experience constant aching, swelling, and darkening of the tooth with the infection eventually killing the tooth and damaging the surrounding gums.
A root canal treatment is a simple and effective approach to save natural teeth, alleviate pain and sensitivities, and prevent the need for dental bridges or implants. The treatment is non-invasive, but usually involves local anaesthesia, so that the patient doesn’t feel any pain during the process. It can be completed in one or more visits depending on the required treatment.
